
Blockbusters of July - December 2019
The first half of 2019 is over. The cinematic universe has blessed us with some of the biggest film events: Avengers: End Game, Captain Marvel, just to name a few. With so many great films already released this year, thankfully there are plenty more new movies lined up to satisfy all movie junkies out there.
Here’s a list of movies to look out for the second half of 2019.
1. Spider-Man: Far From Home
Release date: July 3
Genre: Action, Superhero
With yet another Marvel superhero film, expectations are high. Peter Parker played by Tom Holland is back following the sequel to 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming”. Peter and his friend goes to Europe for a summer trip but is asked by Nick Fury to partner with Quentin Beck a.k.a Mysterio in the battle against extradimensional humanoids, Elementals.
2. The Lion King
Release date: July 19
Genre: Adventure, Animation
Can you feel the love tonight? A live action remake of Disney’s 1994 classic animated film, it tells of a lion, Simba and his journey to becoming king. The struggle he face dealing with the loss of his father and the greed of his uncle who is eyeing the throne.
3. Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw
Release date: August 2
Genre: Action, Adventure
Back with a spin-off 2 years after Fast & Furious 8, Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs and former SAS operative turned mercenary Deckard Shaw find themselves forced to work together despite their intense dislike of each other. They must team up to stop a cyber-genetically enhanced terrorist, Brixton Lore who created a deadly virus that could threaten the future of humanity
4. IT: Chapter Two
Release date: September 5
Genre: Horror
The clown is back! Following the sequel to 2017’s film IT based on Stephen King’s novel, The Losers’ Club is reunited after 27 years of separation. Now grown up and moved out of Derry, Maine, the gang receives a phone call bringing them together as the evil It has returned.
5. Joker
Release date: October 3
Genre: Crime, Drama
We know Joker as Batman’s archenemy, the villain in DC universe but we never knew how he came to be the iconic character. Set in the 80s’, the movie shows how Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian take up the persona of Joker, the Clown Price of Crime who wreaks mayhem in Gotham city.
6. Charlie's Angels
Release date: November 14
Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy
The angels are back after 16 years with new faces! Three attractive women working for a private detectives agency under a boss “Charlie” are hired on missions to save the world. Townsend Agency has expanded internationally and have multiple trained women forming teams of Angels completing missions across the globe. When a young systems engineer blows the whistle on a dangerous technology, these Angels are called into action, putting their lives on the line to protect us all.
7. Terminator: Dark Fate
Release date: October 24
Genre: Action, Adventure, Science Fiction
Arnold Schwarzenegger is back as the Terminator. 27 years after the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day, a new, modified liquid metal Terminator is sent from the future by Skynet in order to terminate Dani Ramos, a hybrid cyborg human, and her friends. Sarah Connor comes to their aid, as well as the original Terminator, for a fight for the future.
8. Frozen 2
Release date: November 27
Genre: Animation, Adventure, Comedy
Let it go! Let it go! Elsa the Snow Queen and her sister Anna are joined by their friends Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven as they embark on an adventure far into the forest, to learn the truth about the kingdom of Arendelle's ancient mystery.
9. Jumanji 3: The Next Level
Release date: December 5
Genre: Adventure, Family, Fantasy
From the last movie, “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle”, high school students, Spencer, Bethany, “Mouse”, “Fridge” & Martha found themselves stuck into the world of Jumanji, a real life video game set in the jungle. This time they return to Jumanji to save one of their own. Their game avatars get switched and new players added to the game. They will need to brave new elements from arid deserts to snowy mountain in order to win and escape the world’s most dangerous game.
10. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
Release date: December 19
Genre: Action, Adventure, Fantasy
The final and 9th instalment of the Star Wars series. The remnants of the Resistance face the First Order once again—while reckoning with the past and their own inner turmoil. Meanwhile, the ancient conflict between the Jedi and the Sith reaches its climax, altogether bringing the Skywalker saga to a definitive end.
